UPCD Students Win National Research Tilt, Represent Philippines in SEAADE/IADR

Two dental students of UPCD placed first in the national division of the Dentsply Asia Student Clinician Program last July 27, 2007 held in Astoria Plaza, Pasig City.

Willard B. Belen and Lyzar P. Villena vested five (5) other researchers from four (4) dental schools with their study entitled "Effect of Air-drying Time on Dentin Shear Bond Strength of a Total-Etch and a Self-Etch Adhesive" in a table top research presentation. Five judges composed the closed door judging in the national level where Emilio Aguinaldo College and Centro Escolar University bagged the second and third places respectively.

 

The students were sent as Philippine representative for the Dentsply Asia Student Clinician Program that was held simultaneously with the Annual joint session of the 18th South-East Asian Association for Dental Education (SEAADE) and 21st International Association for Dental Research South-East Asian Division IADRSEA in Bali, Indonesia on September 6-8, 2007.

The students received a cash prize of P5000 and an all-expense paid trip to Bali to attend the said event.

Seven countries competed in the Dentsply Asia/SEAADE/IADRSEA Division Student Clinician Program that was held in Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel in Bali, Indonesia. The research competition was also held in a closed door judging where Lau May Nak of Malaysia got the first place and was chosen to present the winning research in the American Dental Association Annual Session. Tinnie Effendy (Indonesia) and Jonathan Ku (Hong Kong) placed second and third places respectively. The other countries that joined the said event were Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam and the Philippines.

All participants were given USD150, a medallion, a certificate and also a membership in the International Association of Student Clinicians – American Dental Association (SCADA).
